“You could take a bullet today – Are you ready”?
On the way to our first
outreach we wanted to visit a small café where the owner had given her life to
Christ on our last visit and the waitress had returned to the Lord as a
backslider. The seating area was filled with around 20 very heavily armed
soldiers, heavy machine guns, grenade launchers, along with regular M16’s &
side arms. We had met some of these guys before and shared the gospel with
them. Vennie lost no time in lifting up her voice whilst they ate breakfast and
preached Christ. After a few minutes I heard her say my name and realised she
had done a “Vennie” on me, it’s not unusual for her to call everyone’s
attention in an area, speaking for a few minutes but in fact she’s introducing
me to speak. As I do not understand all the different dialects here I have no
idea what she is saying until she suddenly gestures to me then promptly sits
down and like it or not I’m on. Imagine!
As is expected the first few
minutes are tense and you do not exactly feel the love in the room, but as the
words of Christ, the lostness of man and the hope of the cross are made
manifest, you see the eyes of battle hardened men drop and soon they are ready
to ask God’s forgiveness and receive Christ into their hearts.
