Last week as every week we continue to have the privilege of witnessing so many amazing God glorifying events here in Mindanao Southern Philippines. Many things occur here that never reach the press. The reason being that when the press do come they disappear – Permanently!

We just returned from the devastated typhoon Pablo area where the death toll was estimated at around 1,000. In fact its closer to 4,000. We know that because we steered our four wheel drive away from all the relief set ups in the low land and headed up the mountain where the worst hurricane force winds hit and the tsunami of mud, rock and log slides began.

The lower section of the mountain road had just re-opened with the higher areas still blocked and no relief or rescue had reached there yet. The devastation we saw the higher we climbed was appalling. I have read that the strongest winds cannot break bamboo – I no longer believe that since we witnessed mature bamboo trees entirely snapped and destroyed along with banana trees, coconut trees, homes, whole families and all that lay in the path of this angry monster Pablo.

This swathe of casualties has not and will not be reported because they were illegal gold miners & their families and at all costs both media and government attention of their black market activities must be avoided lest they be closed down.

We gently gathered traumatised groups as we found them and shared the good news of the gospel of Christ for sinful man. In all I guess 200-300 came to Jesus, many great healings including a 10 yr old girl born deaf & dumb, heard clearly and spoke for the first time.

It's probably the darkest place we have visited. The atmosphere felt thick with dark forces that did not want us there. Many irregular occurrences did and continue to occur.

2 of the 4 team members that joined Jo & I, since returning home have experienced emergency hospitalisation in their families. The same ones and another have also endured very serious violent episodes in their families 2 death threats & a shooting.

Felt like we went right into the lair of the enemy, empowered by so much fresh bloodshed and witchcraft which had strengthened his cause. One place we visited high up was spiritually dark indeed. Inwardly we felt that we wanted to leave ASAP but the fear and the trauma on the faces of these lambs stirs Christ’s compassion and great commission to stay and preach Jesus.

We only learnt 5 days after we returned that Mt Dewata, also know as Diwalwal actually means “goddess of evil”. I bet that has a bearing on what we felt and what the team experienced since their return. We also learnt that some of the witches, when they heard a Typhoon was coming mocked and said we will put it in a can!

 I had prophesied to a group of intercessors 4 weeks ago that typhoons, earthquakes & even a tsunami was coming to Mindanao and historically I understand Mindanao doesn’t experience typhoons. I felt to warn them while we preached that more bad weather was coming; they didn’t like that of course. But the next night many were evacuated as fresh rain & flooding again jeopardised their lives. Further, three days ago a Tornado hit the next island up from ours killing another nine.

A young soldier, a sincere Christian and the son of a friend, who wants to join us on outreach when leave allows him, told us how at the last minute he was pulled out of a 20 man recruit platoon assigned to relief food distribution. The platoon truck was ambushed by NPA (all women rebels of the New People’s Army) 7 killed 10 seriously wounded. He told us most of them were still in their teens!

We learn also, that suicides are now occurring as those that have lost families, homes, livelihoods, have lost all hope. I have always considered this beautiful island as a food basket. So much of just about everything grows abundantly here. But within just a few hours entire plantations as far as the eye can see just disappeared. It will take years if ever to be restored.
