IS CONCEIT A CLOSE COMPANION?

IS CONCEIT A CLOSE COMPANION?

Be of the same mind one toward another. Mind not high things, but condescend to men of low estate. Be not wise in your own conceits. -Romans 12:16

On learning anything that our ears are not familiar with, before we form preconceived ideas as to the matter’s validity, we should first of all be sure as whether or not Father has actually appointed us as the sole arbiters of truth.  Pilate didn’t realise that he was addressing the very origin and person of truth when he asked of Christ “What is truth”.

So too are many ignorant of some truths even when directly confronted with them.

The sluggard is wiser in his own conceit than seven men that can render a reason. -Proverbs 26:16

Conceit is a devil of deception that says a matter is only true when sanctioned by themselves. It assumes by delusion that a new thing cannot be learnt unless they are the first ones to learn it or too bear witness to it.

The Bereans at Thessalonica had an entirely different attitude, choosing instead to search the scriptures & prove the thing before dismissing the thing as untrue.

Of course there are many things that we know right from the get go are quite simply wrong based upon our knowledge of scripture. Yet sadly we apply that same rule of law also to matters that we do know.

Why do we do this? Because we are ignorant of Satan & his devices and the depth & scope of deception.

Few deceptions are as formidable strongholds as self-deception manifest by conceit.

The rich man's wealth is his strong city, and as an high wall in his own conceit. -Proverbs 18:11
