A few months back, some
Filipino missionary friends come to stay with us for a couple of days from the north.
They had specifically come to our area here in General Santos at the request of
a relative here. She asked them to come
as her 19 year old daughter’s demon possession had got worse.
As our friends also have
much experience in this area they were willing to come. They are outstanding godly young men and we
are always pleased to see them and hear their great reports of all the Lord is
doing in their area.
The Spirit of The Glass
The story with the girl
is that seven years ago when this girl was only 12 yrs, she and several others
played what is known locally as “The spirit of the glass”. In the west we refer
to same as “Ouija Board. But, in our past counselling and exorcism experience
it is most certainly not a game rather a very real doorway in the evil side of
the invisible realm. I have forgotten how many times we have prayed with and
witnessed screaming demons leave victims who thought talking with spirits would
be an exciting way to spend a few hours.
Departed human souls do not wander after death
For the record, there
are no wandering human spirits. The bible is very clear about this. Hebrews
9v27 explains “We die once and after this the judgement”. Contrary to the
popular TV shows stating that the spirits of the departed can simply roam
around freely. I assure you this is not true. When we die as sincere Christians
we go to heaven, if we die still in our sin, Jesus said numerous times we will
go to hell. The invisible realm is certainly real and very active. But the only
entities within that dimension are angels, demons and the Holy Spirit of God.
Demons impersonate the departed
Demons will impersonate
dead persons; they will readily declare names, dates & places that only the
dead person could know. If you are ignorant of their ways you can be deceived
into believing that you are conversing with some dearly departed soul. But you
are actually hearing from a demon. This is why God is so direct in Deuteronomy
There shall not be found among you any one that maketh his son
or his daughter to pass through the fire, or that useth divination, or an
observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch, Or a charmer, or a consulter with familiar
spirits, or a wizard, or a necromancer. For all that do these things are an
abomination unto the LORD: and because of these abominations the LORD thy God
doth drive them out from before thee. Thou shalt be perfect with the LORD thy God.

Sounds quite bizarre eh?
Almost unbelievable, certainly unimaginable. Welcome to the tragedy of the real
world as sadly this is far from a rare occasion to learn of this type spiritual
assault. Sadly, we have also encountered
rape by demon forces in the UK and the victim was not always small or female.
As for the three other young girls that experienced madness, their parents
brought them to a type of witch doctor which relieved their madness. What in
fact happens is the spirit does not leave them, only the manifestation of
insanity leaves them, the spirit goes internal and behaves differently but
certainly does not leave at a witch doctors bidding or rituals. Quite the
contrary is true. Consider that the next time you think about visiting one for
help.
If you have, are or know
someone that is living the nightmare that I’m describing here, no amount of
counselling, medication or mental institution lock down will get you over such
an experience. You need someone who knows how to cast out demons as Christ
directed us.
What does the bible say about Demon spirits?
The bible tells us that
demon spirits were once beautiful angels that dwelt in the presence of Almighty
God. But after Lucifer’s rebellion he rose up seeking to steal Christ position
in the heavenlies, forgetting that unlike Christ who actually is the son of
God, Lucifer is only a created being without the inherent divinity or
sovereignty of Christ. Read Isaiah 14 vs
9-17, Ezek 28 vs 1-19

Quickly, the arch angel
Michael and the faithful angels quelled the rebellion of these super beings and
Lucifer, now known as Satan, was cast out of the presence of God with the third
of the angels he’d managed to recruit and forced to dwell in earth’s
atmosphere, where till now he roams the earth, appearing as early as the Garden
of Eden. Humanity still pays for that visit till this day.
Perhaps that all sounds
as farfetched to you as it did to me the first time I heard it. But, if you
have encountered these fallen angels whilst still in a human host, a demonised
or worse demon possessed person, and you will have but they will be
deliberately veiled by clever normality and you will most likely not realise it
or more than the average human host realises that their uncontrollable excesses
are often the work of an internal demon spirit..
When demons manifest
The sparks usually begin
to fly when sufficient of the power of God is present and they can conceal
themselves no more, if you begin commanding them to come out in the name of
Jesus after a point when they can bear no more they will forsake their
camouflage of normality, composure will be gone and you may be surprised at
what you will see, experience and hear. I’ve actually seen a lot of sceptics
over the years make instant revisions to their theology about demons when they
are caught in the presence of one that begins to manifest.
And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall
they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; Mark 16v17
I have heard so many
arguments over that verse, that it’s not for today, it’s not longer required? I
beg to differ, and my argument does not come from the cold pages of logic,
reasoning and opinion but face to face with only faith and the name of Jesus
Christ to bring about a breakthrough as it often erupts quickly, unexpectedly and
without warning as like something out of a horror movie.
Dark Insidious Evil
Sometimes we are asked
“Why are you taking your western culture and trying to impose it on people who
are happier without you”. We understand that train of thought. However, we love the local culture and if we
could we would export it back to the west.
But we cannot be in denial about another evident culture here, dark and insidious,
evil. From which many of these poor people, mostly in the rural areas, fear no
escape is possible. The presence of fallen angels is in no way less in the west
than typical third world nations. It’s that demonic activity there is more subtle
and sophisticated, less obvious.
At present I can’t think
of much from my western upbringing that is better than what they already enjoy
here. Children and youth are supremely respectful, most adults are friendly,
engaging and want to know you or help you. The majority of these dear people
are far more socially advanced than the west. It is they who teach us, and
frankly we love the liberty of “loving your neighbour openly”. Not so easy
where I was brought up. Such openness and kindness there would be misunderstood
to mean something else.

For the record, both the
bible and scripture confirm that is true at least, when our life aligns with
Christ’s life. Power over demons and dark forces is not a formula, a certain
set of words, it’s the overflow of a life style of “Christ in us – The hope of
glory”. I have seen big men smacked silly by a single blow from an invisible
hand for presuming to address a demon in Jesus name, when in fact their own
life was already more run by demons than it was the spirit of God. Equally, I
have seen strong devils, flee screaming from their victim host when commanded
to do so by small, young ladies whose lives were filled with Christ and His
word. Remember the 7 sons of Sceva in Acts 19v14+
The story of the young lady continues
We dropped our friends
off near their destination early next morning. Around five o’clock that evening
they returned to our rental home exhausted. They confirmed “oh yes, the girl
did indeed have serious problems”. They had spent the whole day commanding the
evil spirit to come out and leave her. But nothing, not the result they had
expected to see for whole days effort. So, now they felt a tad confused and
discouraged but had committed to returning for a second session the next day.
Another brother Jun was
staying with us at that time helping out with some of the activities we had
going on and our schedule was full. However, we could not bear to see our
friends like this and so volunteered to return with them next morning as
re-enforcements for an hour at least after which we would have to go.
How demons work
We spent a portion of
the evening discussing different demon tactics and why some demons could be
cast out quite easily but others appeared far more stubborn. This line of
conversation is not new to us. In my younger days I’m the one doing the asking;
latterly I’m the one being asked. The answer is as simple as Jesus told the
disciples:
But Jesus took him by the hand, and lifted him up; and he arose.
And when he was come into the house, his disciples asked him privately, Why
could not we cast him out? And he said unto them, This kind can come forth by
nothing, but by prayer and fasting. Mark 9v27-29
In Matthew’s account of
this same story he states that Jesus also said “because of your unbelief”.
There are in fact
several reasons that some demons take longer to expel. The demon may be a
bigger stronger devil, perhaps they are many, there may be a curse on the
person, house, family, is there hidden sin?, un-forgiveness?, perhaps fasting
is required? But faith is always required and according to Christ faith should
be sufficient. We ended the evening with fervent prayer and begin the next day
with the same.

The house we are
visiting is around 6 miles from our own. We arrive at the Barangay (small town)
which is made up of regular block houses and some palm leave and bamboo type huts
seated atop a few courses of concrete blocks. It’s around 8am. On entering the
small house you can readily sense a very tense and fearful atmosphere. Inside
looks like it’s divided in to a sitting area, kitchen area and about 3
bedrooms. I’m looking around the home as I’m being introduced to a wearied and
burdened looking mother of the child. For seven years she has endured these
terrifying sexual assaults against her daughter and no one can help. You can
imagine this mother is beyond traumatised and is at her wits end. Western
culture sure can’t help about now either.
Many exorcisms are a completely calm affair
I see in the right hand
corner a small room with 2 armchairs blocking the doorway. I ask if that’s where
the girl is, I’m told it is so I storm towards it and as I’m about to negotiate
the chairs I see there, just ahead of me is the young lady who is obviously the
one we are here to pay with. She is stretched out on the bamboo slats of a
homemade bed frame. She is already staring at me with the most intense
expression of hatred. I’ve seen that before. I’m surprised that although I know
she’s 19 she still could pass for a 13 year old. She’s terribly skinny, wearing
some kind of vest top and jogging pants. I go and sit right close beside where
her head is on the bed. Neither of us take our eyes off each other, the
intensity is strong. I’ve been here before and paid for the mistake of not
remaining vigilant or ready for anything. Sometimes, not always, in circumstances
like these things can change not even in seconds but in split seconds and it
pays to be very much in the peace the Holy Spirit provides and in the alertness
He provides also. For the record, many exorcisms are a completely calm affair
that is except for the demon that is being cast out. They don’t seem very calm at all.
Shortly, I’m joined by
our two friends and the room is full already, Jun stands at the door with the
mother and the brothers join me and the girl sitting on the bed.
Eyeball to eyeball with the demon possessed girl
Almost eyeball to
eyeball with the girl I command in calm but no nonsense tone for the demons to
leave and leave immediately. It’s not unusual at that point for absolutely
nothing to happen. If that spirit can get you to believe he is no longer there
and you are wasting your time, he has a chance you may just quit and leave him
in his human house alone. Not today.
Quite quickly, it would appear an exact rerun of what our friends said occurred
the day before. Face contorting beyond human ability, writhing, and twisting,
all the while staring pure hatred. This had continued only a few moments when I
repeated again with even greater firmness “Come out of her now in Jesus Name”.
The whole house began to shake
At that point the bed
began to tremble, and then shake quite noticeably, and then the walls began to
shake and the floor was moving below our feet it seemed the entire house began
to sway. As calmly and coolly as
possible we all begin to eyeball each other “Did you feel that?” we were all
asking the same question repeatedly. The mother’s expression said what we felt,
“OH NO”!!. It seemed to be the common but unspoken opinion among us that we had
just unearthed the mother lode what was next?. This was it, it’s a major big
demon that can even shake the house and the ground but faith was there and our
intensity of command increased “You are coming out now devil in Jesus name”!
With fresh fire and zeal
we all began to verbally attack with fervency for the demon to leave. The two
friends were both experiencing coughing & nausea. One had to leave the room. The demon girl
smirked through the girls face.
Right at this moment of
apparent major confrontation, the atmosphere could not have been more intense,
my phone, which Id set on silent mode, began to vibrate incessantly in my left
pocket. I’d ignored it long enough, I wasn’t for breaking the action now, this
devil on the run. Reluctantly I gave the phone screen a quick check and saw
that it was Jo. Hmm! That was unusual for Jo to call me when she knows I’m in a
exorcism. Must be an emergency, better take the call. I pass the lead to the
guys while I slip outside to answer the call. My first words before she can
speak are “Honey I hope this is important, you won’t believe what’s going on
here”. Jo who is six miles away remember
calmly replies, “I just thought I should let you know I think we’ve just had an
earthquake here, the lights are swaying the doors are banging and it feels like
the house is shaking”.

Why are you laughing?
I went back in, all
enquiring eyes clearly wanted to know what on earth in the midst of demonic
mayhem was I finding funny. What a pantomime. I could even imagine the angels
laughing at our delusion. When I explained Jo’s call that we were not actually
dealing with an earth moving devil only a small earth tremor right across the
region, it was difficult to contain the humour and the relief. The only one
that did not look entertained was the young lady. Her demon was perhaps even
disappointed that we had just relegated it back to a normal demon status.

The storm subsides
Soon it was time for Jun
& I to return to our schedule. We met our friends again for dinner back at
the house later in the day. They reported that the girl was much calmer, less
wrestling, a reduction in facial contortions, in general a more peaceful
afternoon. It could not be said for sure that the spirit was permanently gone.
We have had numerous occasions when at a specific point in the proceedings it was
clear to all present that a spirit had most definitely departed from it’s host.
On other occasions it has been like this, when there was nothing definite,
nothing certain, but later as the days turned to weeks the victim could report
an increase in liberty and a decrease in demonic control until latterly it
would ebb to nothing. That is our prayer for that young lady.
A Similar Story
When time allows I’ll
post another very similar testimony of a young girl who was chained to her bed
for two years, some members of our team along with others on an independent
outreach witnessed an on the spot, specific deliverance in that the demon physically
pushed hard past one of the team as he fled.
That is the reality of
demon spirits and our total authority over them.
