Rocky You Must Not Kill This Man

Assassin Gets Saved:

At the Dawn Watch celebration I met Bobby, he told me an amazing tale as to what happened to him that week. Bobby had originally been a communist rebel, but since that provide enough mayhem he left them to become a freelance mercenary – no shortage of work in Mindanao for that occupation. However, Bobby being quite entrepreneurial realised that the big money was being paid to assassins so he become one of those instead and made a profitable living at it. Latterly, his wife became an on fire Christian and joined the early Morning Prayer gathering. Bobby became amazed at the difference in her, also being oblivious to the fact that she is pouring out her heart to God everyday for his salvation. Eventually he could resist Christ’s claims on his life no longer, repented, and joined the Morning Prayer gathering himself. For his new income he is using his motorbike to join the army of two wheeled taxis.

He told me that, just a few days before the celebration, whilst he was out taxing, he was hailed by an old friend in the killing business called Rocky, they used to be mercenaries together then both joined the ranks of “killers for hire” at the same time. Rocky has came to town on an “Hit mission” and is glad he’s seen Bobby as he can ride round to find his “contract” and will pay him an accomplice share as his getaway rider. Bobby said he listened to the Rocky’s offer and was devastated. Though he knew the man they were looking for and were to find him, this was his old life and he really wanted no part of it regardless of the financial reward. He deliberately drove all the places he least expected to find the guy Rocky was looking for and when he could take the fire of distress in his heart no longer he pulled the bike over got off and began to weep begging "Rocky you must not kill this man". He pleaded to spare this man’s life. Tearfully explaining that he was now a Christian and could have nothing to do with this and that Rocky should seriously seek the peace that he himself had found in Jesus Christ.

Bobby told us that Rocky’s expression was one of sheer amazement. He told Bobby he couldn’t believe what he was hearing since he was so sick of this murdering lifestyle but didn’t know anything different, he didn’t know any way out. He had never heard anything like it before but hope sprang up in his heart as he listened about the peace Bobby had found in becoming a Christian and asked if there was any way he could have the same. There and then they drove to one of the churches that participate in the revival and Rocky repented, gave his life to Jesus and vowed never to hold a gun in his hand again.

A few days later Bobby brought Rocky round to meet me. Really not what I expected at all, but after a few moments of conversation he was clearly the real deal but rejoicing in his new found faith. He told me right after prayer he went to his contractor, the man who was paying him to do this hit and said he was finished. Don’t call me again. But, the very next day he was offered $4,500 for another job for a VIP hit, which is an immense fee for these guys, the average kill paying a mere $500 - $700 . Rocky explained, that over the last few months, most probably since the Morning Prayer meeting began in this area, that he could hardly live with himself anymore, that he hated his life, but had no idea how he could change it. So, when Bobby began to tell him about Christ it was like a dream come true, he doubted that Christ would forgive and accept someone like him. But he returned to his home with the peace of his new found salvation. It had such an immediate impact on his family that they joined him in church Sunday morning all asking how they too can be saved… The blessing and power of God that awaits us, the healing of our land that is available, if we will unite as Christ prayed in John 17. It is little wonder that Jesus wept over Jerusalem crying “how often I would have gathered you under my wings as a hen gathers her chicks If only you knew, even you at this time, the things that belong to your peace but you would not”. How God longs to heal our land…
