The track heading to Purock 9 |
JSP - Just Stop & Preach
But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be
witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the
uttermost part of the earth. Acts 1v8
To reach the place we feel to preach at after the school PTA meeting we have a good hike up a muddy mountain track then on through another community. Which community we have previously preached at and have thankfully become very warm and friendly. People come out to greet us and testify that their pain is still gone or the eye can still see, the ear can still hear, weeks later and the astonishment of Christ saving and healing them remains fresh in their mind.
But, today we continue on skirting
up and across mount tracks and two plank bridges until we arrive at Purok 9
& 10. This was the last place we reached on our last visit and saw great
results and promise here. This day the Holy Spirit leads us to evangelise by practising
what we call “walk about outreach”. The
first time we visited it as with most first visits the place was spiritually very
cold and had an element of hostility possibly because it’s a mixed Muslim
community? Now it seems we have many friends in that place and was even asked
if we can provide them some bibles.
One young lad remembering me ran
up and affectionately hugged my leg as if I was his long lost father. Many others
smiled, called out or waved as they welcomed us back in their place.
We walked the thin undulating
rocky track separating the long row of shacks, overhead tarpaulins joined the
buildings and offered a welcome shade from today’s hot sun.
On passing a small café, around
10 men of differing ages sat drinking coffee and playing cards. We entered despite
the clear social signals not to and began to greet them, shaking hands and
introducing ourselves. You could quite quickly discern they would have
preferred we kept walking. However, we asked the lady owner if we could have just
10 minutes in her café to share why we were here in their place. She agreed and
as a further gesture of hospitality she laid out fresh bread and sodas for the
two or three that were with me. I asked Vennie if she would interpret and so I
began to tell the story that I never ever tire of “I saw Jesus Christ the Son
of God and He spoke my name”. Soon, every eye is watching every move and ears
are listening to every word. Others seem to appear out of nowhere and join the
still silent crowd.
Then we come in our talk to the decision “Friends
thank you for listening today but now you must make a decision!” “Here is the
first decision you must make – Is the foreigner telling you lies or is it the
truth I have seen the son of God or not”?
“The second decision you must
make is this – If you believe my words are true then what will you do about
this Jesus Christ who has holes in His hands, His feet, and His side as a
result of your sin? Will you accept Him this day as your sacrifice for sin? Or
will you make the choice to reject Gods only son, the only one to ever truly
love you”? Make your decision now friends, simply raise your hand if you would
like someone to council you in the way of salvation”! Every person present raises
a hand. There is old, wizened, scarred, hunched, young, wild and simply lost,
regardless of their life’s story, they recognise that Jesus Christ is the
answer to the cry of their aching soul.
The team that are with me
move among them and lead them in a prayer, then follow with council regarding
how to grow their walk with God by bible reading, prayer & fellowship. We
ask if they’d like a regular meeting in their place and they all signify that
they would.
We state as is our practise
that God will now confirm His word and His great love for them with healing
miracles. Most of this now 30+ crowd respond to the offer. This is a mountain,
the work is excruciatingly hard, the injuries are frequent, they are no doctors
or clinic here and despite this being a mountain of gold there is no money to
pay for medical treatment even if it was available.
The first man forward is an
older mad, injured in a car accident several years ago. He is dragged forward
by the owner of the café, the kind lady that gave us bread & drinks. The
man seems gnarled and hunched following several years of pain and ineffective
surgery. In Jesus name in minutes he is beaming ear to ear, trying to explain
to the others present, with nothing short of shock that his pain is gone and he
can move freely again. He demonstrates he can twist, touch his toes, rock backwards
and forwards, he walks into the crowd persuading them to receive prayer also.
Numerous other back injuries, breathing problems & head healings later we
continue our walk down the narrow track assuring our new friends that by Gods
grace we will return soon.
