Weeping, Wailing & Mocking at the High School |
If only you could hear the weeping & wailing as students repent before God |
We took a quick lunch break at the chicken & rice stall. While we sat a woman came up to the group and asked us would we mind visiting the adjoining “high school” a collection of large shoddy rooms, providing emergency classrooms after typhoon Pablo had ripped the original school (even more shoddy rooms) apart. We all agreed we were willing. She disappeared for a few minutes and returned with a man slightly older than herself and introduced him as the principle of the high school. He thanked us for our willingness to meet with the 200+ students. We discussed when would be the best day and time to do that then we all agreed directly after the chicken and rice was finished. We love the flexibility here and willingness to accommodate any existing schedule you may already have.
Within twenty or so minutes, our small team had split up, some in this classroom, some in that classroom and Jo & I with the principle and teachers in his office. There was great sobriety to be found on most faces as the truth of Christ’s cross was made clear along with their personal contribution and accountability for His death. All over this sprawling school, pupils in classes either side of the wrecked open air basketball court began weeping, some wailing amidst the mocking laughter of a few. Their sniggering made no difference to those who had glimpsed Christ crucified. Broken by the comprehension of their own sin they no longer cared what any fool thought of them.
Teachers and students alike raised their hands in simple acknowledgement of both their need and desire for Christ as Saviour.
Around 150 students sat under this tent and most accepted Christ as Lord |
It is evident that we are welcome to begin a regular student work here – But, oh do we need more labourers.
